My life and relationship with nature.
We are hosting a new exhibition of paintings at Space Artworks in Morningside by artist
Bobby Rennie
I started as a traditional landscape artist many years ago, with my interest in nature, but I was also fascinated with living in the new town of Cumbernauld with its stark landscape of local authority housing with forests in the middle of estates. I painted what a grew up with and later expanded into other areas and widened out my subject matter. One of my favourite places is Cumbernauld Glen and Park where the famous 1980’s film Gregory’s Girl was shot. It has historic buildings within the site including a Dovecot and the Cumbernauld House. I produced many commissions and my artwork is included in their national collection. I started to explore the idea of bringing an abstract element into my work. I put traditional landscape scenes into an abstract setting and including shattered images and lights in my work which is an expression of my own experience of migraines. I have now moved onto purely abstract images. I love the idea of movement, light and colour as the main focus. Much of my work has mystical images to express a journey through a challenging situation and how the signs and symbols I include can make it easier to have hope.
The exhibition runs until 31st March 2017
